Film,  The Great Dictator

        A Jewish barber loses his memory after a plane crash. When he finally tries to make sense of his surroundings, he finds himself subjected to a dictator's tyranny.

Adenoid Hynkel (Dictator) and Jewish Barber were played by Charlie Chaplin.



        The Great Dictator is a 1940 American political satire comedy drama film written directed, produced, scored by, and starring British comedian Charlie Chaplin, following the tradition of many of his other films.  Having been the only Hollywood filmmaker to continue to make silent films,  this was Chaplin 's first true sound film.


         The Great Dictator was a political satire, condemning Hitler, Mussolini, the Nazis, and anti-Semitism. It was Chaplin's first full-sound production and was nominated for five Academy Awards. The film tells the story of a Jewish barber (Chaplin) who is mistaken for a dictator he resembles and is asked to take his place.
